Allah has blessed the residents of Pickering/Ajax with an ideally located property in Pickering.
This property consists of nearly an acre of land with an old double-garage house. After extensive
renovations, the house has been used as "prayer hall", for the last three years. We already have
established an evening Madrasah for learning Qur'an. Other educational activities such as lecture
series and bayan (wa'z) from Islamic scholars and Dawah work, are regularly taking place. The
existing facility, unfortunately, is very small for the need of the community and must be replaced
with a new structure, due to its age and instability. Moreover, it cannot accommodate large number
of people who come for Salat-ul Juma'. Many of them perform their Salah on grass outside the building
(weather permitting). There is an acute shortage of space for Taraweeh Salah during the month of
Ramadhan, and on such occasions when we invite scholars for lectures/wa'z. Due to space limitations,
regrettably sisters are often left out. At the same time, the Township of Pickering, which had granted
us "temporary exemptions", has been insisting to start and complete the new project at the soonest.
A renowned architect, Br. Khalil Syed, has already prepared the drawing for the new structure,
with a built-in space of 19,500 sq. ft. The centre-piece and focal point of this structure will
be a Masjid - "MASJID-E-USMAN". It will also fulfill Muslim Community's educational, social and
cultural needs. The Centre will help us in establishing and propagating Islam, as enjoined by the
Qur'an and the Sunnah. The plan also includes Mortuary/Funeral Services, Insha Allah. At today's
cost, the project is estimated at Cdn.$3.500,000.
The Township of Pickering and Ajax are located at the east end of Metropolitan Toronto. They
have a combined population of approx. 160,000. There are more than 2000 Muslim families in the
area (immigrated from around the world) and their number is fast increasing. These first generations
of immigrants are faced with tough economic realities. The Metro Toronto and its suburban areas have
witnessed phenomenal growth of Muslims. Accordingly, there are several projects underway to cater
the needs of the Community. The ability of the community to pay for the building of Islamic Centres
for spiritual nourishment is severely constrained. Your donation to spread teh Message in this part
of the world would serve Islam until eternity, Insha Allah.
